Dora the Explorer

This first Dora Quilt was made for Sari's friend Josie. I posted this picture of it because it shows the machine quilting very well.
I made the other Dora Quilt below for my Great grand daughter Tia Sorohan. She loves Dora. Don't all little girls?
I bought the panel Dora with Stars for the centre of the quilt and then added the patchwork borders to make the Quilt big enough for her first bed.
I machine quilted it. She has had it for a few years now but still loves it.
I guess that soon she will out grow Dora and a new quilt will be needed. Not too soon I hope.

70th Birthday Quilt for Margaret Bryant

This is Margaret's 70th Birthday quilt.
Our patchwork friends at the Charters Towers Patchwork and Quilting Group each made and embelished a 6" block with rich jewell colours.
I set the 30 blocks into this quilt 5 rows by 6 and added black sashing and borders. The backing is also the black velvet. It is very rich looking.

70 year Birthday Quilt for Celie Moller

Our local patchwork club, Charters Towers Patchwork and Quilters, makes a quilt or some gift for each of our members when they reach the age of 70.
This lovely crazy patchwork quilt was made for Celie Moller. Several of our members were given two small pieces of fabric and asked to make a 6" crazy patchwork block using other jewell colours and to richly embelish it.
We received 32 blocks back and I made up the quilt with 6 rows of 5 blocks and sashed and bound it with black velvet.
As we had two blocks over I made the label using my block at the top and the other one at the other end of the the embroidered panel of names of the makers of the blocks.
I made the binding by joining several 2.5" strips of similar jewell fabrics - cross cut the strips at 2.5" and joined the strips to make the length required to do the binding.
It was so lovely - I really didn't want to hand it over straight away. But I am sure Celie also love it.

Harry Potter Quilts for Kris and Scott

I made these two Harry Potter Quilts for two of my Grandsons who were right into Harry at the time. They were made in 2002.
I bought two panels and some other Harry Potter fabric from America in 2001. (A big adventure for me in those days) - but it wasn't available in Australia at the time. I put different patchwork borders on each one to make them a bit different. The one on the right was made for Kris Ramsay I think for his 12th birthday in January 2002 and the one below was made for Scott Naughton - in April 2002.
I machine quilted them both - before anyone told me that it was dificult.

Flannel Baby Quilts made in 2011

Quilt for Jacob McNeil. Jacob is Colin McNeil and Sharon Dungavell/McNeil's baby. Jacob is the first Grand Child for Aitken and Marion Dungavell. They all live in Scotland. We have been fortunate to be at Sharon and Colin's wedding a few years ago.
This Quilt was made with machine embroidery of various baby motifs designed by Missi of Skeldale
House from the US and the connecting cross quilting designs are by Cathy Park in Australia.I backed the quilt and bound it with Polar fleece to make it a bit more cosy for their cold climate.
This Pink quilt was made for my friend and work mate Kathy's grandchild Shilough. Shilough was the much awaited daughter after three beautiful boys for Marie Wakeford.
It is made with three thicknesses of flannel - white on top pink in the middle and white on the back.
The same Skeldesigns were machine embroidered and the seams are sewn with the seam up. - then clipped and brushed - washed a couple of times in the washing machine and dried in the dryer. It is not a pale in real life as it looks here. It is a very fast way to make a baby quilt and it looks great.
I made the blue quilt for Thorval Jensen. Thorval is the first Grandson for my bosses Andrew and Maree Jensen. He is a bonnie boy and the delight of the Jensen family. He lives in Cairns with his Mummy and Daddy and Maree and Andrew minded him in Charters Towers last weekend while his mother and father went to a meeting in Townsville.
It is much the same as Shilough's quilt but has got a cow on it. The Jensens were Dairy farmers and still have some cattle on their farm on the Atherton Tableland. Looking after the cattle makes a good excuse to see Thorville while they are in the north.

Katies Quilt 2010

Katies Quilt 2010.
In the Pink Quilt was designed by Esther Aliu. It was the BOM for her yahoo group in 2010. I made it for my eldest grand-daughter
Katie for her 29th Birthday. Because I needed it to be finished in a hurry I had it professionally machine quilted by Annie Kelly from Home Hill Qld.
She did an excellent job and I love the quilt. I try to make my gift labels to suit the quilt or the person it is made for.
For her 30th birthday, 23rd of October 2011, she is going to skydive on the Strand in Townsville.

Audubon Birds for Ann.
Hello, I am a new blogger.
My Blog is going to be about quilts I have made as gifts for family and friends.
This quilt is a mixture of Machine Embroidery and Machine Quilting.
I purchased the digitised designs from BFC Embroidery Designs. They are their Audubon Birds.
I made the quilt for my work collegue who has left warm North Queensland to go to live in cold Tasmania. It is backed with Black Polar Fleece so it will be nice and cosy.
The birds are in pairs, male and female and the blocks are 6" square with 1.5" name tags underneath.
Because I wanted the birds to stand out and be the main feature of the quilt I sashed it with 6" black strips and put a 6" border around it. I then machine quilted all of the black with a 2" sq diagonal grid.
